Music National Service (MNS) is a non-profit enterprise that supports and expands the use of music to address important civic and social needs. Research shows music to be an effective intervention in: 1) under-resourced public schools and low-income communities to develop more successful students and youth; 2) health care and therapeutic settings for patient recovery and improved functioning; 3) the public domain for increased civic engagement, diplomacy and peace.
Music National Service is piloting a new program called MusicianCorps, a “musical Peace Corps,” that recruits, trains and places musicians in high-need settings wherever music can reach, teach or heal. In exchange for a full-time year of service in public schools, low-income housing projects, children’s and VsA hospitals and other settings, MusicianCorps Fellows receive a living stipend, training, and health care.

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE)
Too many young people today drop out of school and struggle to break the cycle of poverty. Since 1987, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) has been inspiring young people to pursue educational opportunities, start their own businesses, and succeed in life. By providing entrepreneurship education programs relevant to the real world, NFTE empowers students to own their educations in and out of the classroom and to find their own path to success.
NFTE is the only global non-profit organization solely focused on bringing entrepreneurship education to low-income youth. To date, NFTE programs have reached more than 350,000 young people. Currently, programs are active in 9 countries and 21 U.S. states and NFTE impacts the lives of nearly 50,000 young people annually. Our Greater Los Angeles Program Office launched in 2007 and is currently serving 2,000 low-income middle and high school students across the city.
NFTE students see the world differently. They find opportunity where before they saw only roadblocks. They recognize the relevancy of education and the importance of setting and driving toward personal, educational and professional goals. They become entrepreneurial thinkers, armed with the skills and tools to adapt to economic circumstances in good times and bad. Entrepreneurs are a powerful driver of economic growth and NFTE sows the seeds of innovation in students worldwide.
